Issue 4 Open Call: Supernatural

Why do you believe what you believe?
How do you practice your beliefs?
What do you hold sacred?

For Issue 4 of No! Wahala Magazine, we invite African photographers to submit photography projects exploring what spirituality means to you.

The issue’s theme, ‘supernatural’, takes inspiration from what cannot be explained by science or the laws of nature, things brought into being by magic, God, or other forces beyond the physical realm. We want to see how you interpret and express this.

In addition to traditional faith practices, we’re especially interested in work that engages with African spirituality, Indigenous belief systems, and pre-colonial cosmologies - whether through reverence, critique, curiosity, or personal ritual.

Issue 4 will create a space for both the seen and the unseen, the divine and the mysterious. Be as direct or as abstract as you’d like. Let your images explore the depths of your beliefs, confront inherited fears, question colonial erasures, and reclaim what the supernatural means on your terms.

Show us your altars, your ancestors, your dreams, your devotions.

Let your lens become a portal.

Deadline: July 15th 2025
