For our fifth issue, we invite African photographers to explore the theme ‘Interconnectedness’.

We are interested in work that reflects the understanding that we do not exist as separate entities, but as part of a larger whole. Across the continent and its diasporas, our lives are shaped by relationships- between people, land, history, and systems. In a world that often emphasises division, this issue seeks to highlight the strength, complexity, and beauty of connection. We especially welcome projects that engage with Pan-Africanism, shared histories, and collective futures.

 

We encourage photographers to consider:

• Ecosystems and Nature
  The interdependence of trees, soil, air, animals, and humans. How do natural systems reflect connection, balance, and fragility?

• Environmental Responsibility
  How individual and industrial actions impact the wider climate. What does it mean to be accountable to a shared planet?

• Human Relationships and Society
  How our lives are woven together through family, community, and even strangers. How do actions, emotions, and decisions ripple outward?

• Global Systems and Pan-Africanism
  The interconnected nature of economies, migration, trade, and political histories. How do African nations and diasporas remain linked across borders?

• Mind, Body, and Environment
  The relationship between physical health, mental wellbeing, and the environments we inhabit. How are we connected internally and externally?

 

We are open to a wide range of photographic approaches, including documentary, conceptual, and experimental work.

Submission Details

• Submissions are free and open to African photographers

• Open call runs from 1st July to 31st August 2026 (11 pm GMT)

• AI-generated images will not be accepted

 

Applications guidelines:

• Submit via Visura, follow the instructions to submit a Story

• Include a written narrative to accompany the images saved as the Story text

• Minimum 10 images, maximum 15 images

• All images should be individually captioned

• Projects must fit the theme

• AI-generated images will not be considered
