Reflecting on the fact that it’s been a rough couple of years, from adjusting to life after the Covid-19 pandemic to the cost-of-living crisis, political upheaval in various countries and numerous conflicts across the globe. With all the current and impending doom and gloom in front of us, it can be tricky to look on the bright side of things. In this Issue, we highlight the spirit of resilience in the face of hardship and complexity. JOY! - with an intentional exclamation mark, encourages image makers to look for the little (or big) joys that can be encountered in everyday life, whether it’s the ability to wake up every morning, the moments of joyful solidarity, or a celebratory event.
For issue 3, we invited African Photographers to explore the theme JOY! by submitting a body of work that represents what this word meant to them. We define joy as a feeling of great pleasure or happiness. We featured work from six photographers; Andile Bhala, Francis Ogunyemi, Jean-Yves Gauze, Kaumba Badru, Kelsy Macuacua and Youssef Sebti.
